Reliance Power is said to be one of a handful of companies selected by the Indian government selected to build 470MW of solar power in the country.
The company, along with Lanco Infratech, is reportedly one of seven companies awarded the lease, according to indiainfoonline.com.
India’s renewable energy march is also gaining force in the low carbon transport space, with the government approving incentives totalling $21m.
The subsidy, according to Bloomberg, will be available for both hybrid and electric vehicles and will be available until 2012.
In addition, there are plans to fund the research and development of electric vehicles.
In October, the Indian government said it is aiming to add 35MW of renewable energy capacity by 2015.
Through this, it hopes to cut a power deficit and carbon emissions with $55bn of investment.
